Hearts & Hands at Camp Joy

CAMP JOY

CAMP JOY (Christian Appalachian Mission Project Joining Other Youth) is an outreach youth program that began in 1990 to help elderly or destitute homeowners in the Hancock, Maryland - Berkley Springs, West Virginia area to repair their homes and improve their quality of life. The youth and their leaders stay at a Methodist campground called Camp Harmison for a week in July. Local church groups donate their facilities to provide meals for the youth volunteers every night for two weeks.

This year Hearts and Hands again participated in CAMP JOY Sunday, July 9th thru Saturday, July 15th for the 16th straight year.

The work performed in the past includes placing new roofs on homes, building decks and wheelchair ramps, adding bathrooms to homes, and building new additions to homes. The youths learn that they can make a difference to the families and work as a team to accomplish goals they set out to achieve.
